As previously discussed in my research post around Toni R. Toivonen, any pastiche would be difficult to do the way he would. I don’t have access to the resources as well as it being not particularly nice to replicate.
When reflecting on Toivonens work they are, in essence, contact prints. This has resulted in the below set of photograms using some of the objects utilised in my other practice so far. These included, of course, skulls and wilting flowers.
These were first created on a mixture of 12×16” and 10×8” darkroom papers and then inverted. These were scanned as they are and are shown below.
This next gallery shows some digital manipulations of the scans using a combination of a block coloured layer and experiments using layer blending modes. My next step here would be to sepia tone the original prints, rescan them and present them in a new gallery below this.
