In past webinars it has been commented on by some that much of the work I’m creating in this FMP quite closely resembles landscapes or horizons. I can really see this and love that these abstract, cameraless images are causing that sort of impact on some people. The two photograms below have drawn particular attention during P-2-P webinars as fitting this description.
Following experimentations making photograms using cling film on photographic film, I had started to accidentally creates images which resemble mountain ranges. Two of these are shown below and are definitely two of my most favourite images so far.
These images strike me as being quite similar to Dan Holdsworths ‘Black Out’ series as studied during Module 2 of this MA programme. It seems quite fitting that I began this journey wanting to pursue landscape photography and that, for all intent and purpose, I have arrived back at landscape photography again. This is definitely something I want to continue. This next gallery contains a selection of images from the ‘Black Out’ series as mentioned.
Just as a simple comparison I’ve lined up one of Holdsworth images beside mine. I feel that many of the lines in my images are much stronger and ‘punchier’ but this comes from the subject matter being in contact with the photographic plane. Holdsworths images were actual landscape photographs of Icelandic mountains that were then inverted to give this stark contrasting and striking appearance.
It is forms like these that I wish to continue.
