‘Shoot’ 4 – 15th October 2020

This ‘shoot’ comes in the wake of a focus on the photograms of Aberlardo Morell as shown here. I wanted to experiment with creating photograms on film of my own. While I have quite extensive knowledge using film and the darkroom it is never in this way.

To create consistency I noted the height of the enlarger and the aperture the lens was set to, using a peacock feather to keep the ‘object’ consistent also. I am already aware that darkroom paper has an ISO value of 4 but this roll of film is an Ilford FP4 with a rating of 125.

I loaded the medium format roll into a film back for an Mamiya RB67. This enabled me to only expose the one frame at a time and advance the film thereafter.

Starting at 0.1s (the slowest time available on my enlarger) and doubling the time each frame. As seen in the contact sheet below, 1.5s gives the best white and the most clarity on the subject matter.

I look forward to taking this ahead and creating exposures which respond to my ideas.
