The start of the FMP has been slightly delayed for me due to other demands in life. However during this time I have still been reflecting upon directions and possible choices for the coming months and the proposal which is due less than 2 weeks from now.
I used the session to share some photograms I had recently made with my peers using a range of glass objects. My goal at this stage is to work with what could be defined as ‘abstract photography’ although I don’t entirely like that phrase.
‘Abstract photography’ searches usually result in pictures of forks and shadows and what I would largely feel aren’t that abstract at all. The goal here would be to try and define what we mean by that term ‘abstract’.
‘Abstraction’ is often felt to deal with idea rather than events or things. Moving beyond the lens of representation to create forms often overlooked by the human eye.
The photograms were very well received and I had great fun making them. Consideration from here must include that to try and create an entire FMP of photograms / cyanotypes / contact prints could be very neglectful and unconsidering of other ways one could create abstractions. I also don’t wish to create what I term as typically ‘pretty pictures’. To create a macro image of flowers feels a bit amateurish, likewise to just create examples of light painting.
It feels great to have taken this first step towards starting the FMP and I look forward to where the next six months will lead both myself and my practice.
