This final tutorial, I feel, comes too close to deadlines. Regardless of this I found it extremely productive and useful. Many areas of discussion as outlined below. I used it as a chance to present what I had chosen at that point for my WIPP. This needs changing following guidance from Laura.
A main feature of much of my work here has been the cutting out of elements and putting them in a different work or life, decontextualising them.
In the gallery below are the images I presented for this tutorial.
Laura felt that there was quite a bit of repetition and that the presentation of singular images was quite weak. From here I would like to experiment by combining certain images to form diptychs or triptychs. The order of these images is critical to the WIPPs success.
An idea for the future is to take an object and begin to distort it photographically. What we can’t see in real life? What is hidden underneath? It was felt that it was a good idea of the Szarkowski five elements to underpin but it can’t seem to be the be all and end all. It’s also worth consideration that Szarkowskis writings were in the 1980’s and so much is dated and does not consider the digital era of photography.
The guidance from here is to print out images and move them around. If this had to be a physical thing, what form would that take. Which images would be larger? which smaller? Need rhythm.
Super interesting images and really cool stuff going on. Still things that aren’t visually there, not the time and opportunity yet but that will come if it continues.
Following this tutorial I am going to review the contents of my WIPP and experiment further with my images to form diptychs and triptychs and other combinations. Time will be dedicated during my oral presentation to the presentation strategies for a body of work such as this.
Following the tutorial Laura messaged me to say she didn’t see any of my scanography images in this selection. It is my intention from here to include those also.
