As part of the annual showcase for Falmouth Flexible, Landings 2020 was one like no other before. The global situation with Covid meant that people had to become more imaginative and creative with their contribution to the series.
I decided to build light boxes to exhibit some of my scanography images with. These were exhibited in the window of Pigeon Books in Southsea, Portsmouth, England. This is an area of the city I have exhibited in several times and I even curated a gallery bar within this neighbourhood only a few years ago. .These were quite DIY but I’m really pleased with them. This first gallery shows different stages of construction and prototyping to create the light boxes.
With the light boxes complete I created the installation on Monday 27th July at Pigeon Books. Establishing the boxes on a timer so they would be illuminated out of opening hours and into the evening. It was then during the live launch evening that I stood outside the shop to present my light boxes to the IG live audience. That video is available here
In this next gallery are images of the installation later that evening when conditions were a bit darker the the light boxes are more effective.
I’m forever grateful to Mel and Phil of Pigeon Books for allowing me the use of their window for a week. They’re a great independent book store in the heart of Southsea selling titles from both their shop and their website. Check out their website here
