Module 4 – Shoot 10 – Selected Images

As mentioned in the contact sheet post for this shoot these images were attempted transcriptions of the work by Kreetta Järvenpää and in that post I have discussed their shortfalls and how I wish to try and remedy them. Post production process here was more than I have been doing recently with initial adjustments to exposure and cropping. This was then followed by softening of the sharpness of the image to try and create a delicate and painterly effect as found in Järvenpääs work. This was aided by the use of the diffuser on the LED light panel to try and soften the impact of the light on the scene.

The next gallery of images is for the experiments using projection onto the flowers set up for the shoot. A bit of a kneejerk experiment but I really enjoyed doing it. I would like to consider the use of projection in my scenes more as time goes on. I have separated one of the images from this gallery below it and have made further commentary on it.

The duller light put out by the projector made for slower exposure times and lead to a quick experiment in changing what was on show. I had been using three images from previous shoots on this module in my projections and decided to sequence through these during the six second exposure. The effect is really impactful and you find more elements the more you look.

The final segments on this page are dedicated to the images I created when experimenting with slow exposure and movement of the objects in the scene. As previously mentioned, these experiments are working towards transcriptions of the work of Anton Giulio Bragaglia and have a limited success at this stage. As mentioned on the afformentioned research page, I would like to make experiments with self portraits using strobe lighting to be closer to Antons work and would then like to use strobe with the moving objects.

Given the works of Anton Giulio Bragaglia are presented in monochrome form I decided to give me own images the black and white treatment. These are less successful and I don’t like them as much but I felt it necessary to experiment with here.
