Module 4 – Week 4 – Presentation 1 – Outwit

Thinking on your practice, what are the apparatus and programmes you are using and how are you outwitting them?

I would not consider myself to be outwitting my equipment but rather working with it often masterfully. I have always had a preference for using Nikon’s if working digitally and they’re a platform I’ve come to know very well. This module a feel a reduced use of film due to the cost and time restraints. This is a shame however it could be consideration down the line to produce images using film for the FMP.

Do you privilege the lens, the digital sensor or the camera manufacturers in any particular way?

I definitely prefer shooting Nikon and have outlined reasons above. My preference would be film but can’t move quickly enough on this remote learning course with this medium often waiting weeks for results.

And if you prefer to keep your process a black box, what would be the context and motivations for doing so and are there responsibilities associated with that?

There are responsibilities associated with the use of a camera as ‘black box’ but I would be interested to use other methods of image making moving forwards such as obscura and contact prints through photograms and cyanotypes.
