Module 4 – Week 3 – Presentation 2 – Helping Others

Within your own projects, how much agency do your subjects have in the creative decisions?

Within my own practice I place very little agency with my subject matter over creative decisions. I have often not enjoyed working with others or photographing actual people and so they feature little in my practice both before and during this MA programme.

Who is your primary audience and subsequently your secondary audience?

A curious question which is one I neglected somewhat in the previous module. Still life photographs can be almost a small scale tableau with the scene and the objects in it placed for deliberate effect.

I suppose my primary audience would be those who frequent or visit galleries while my secondary audience would come as a by-product of that initial gallery exposure. These thoughts don’t feel developed enough at this stage and require some attention.

In sharing the work, how can you retain the agency of the participants for a secondary audience without speaking on their behalf?

Typically my subject or my ‘participant’ is usually that of a documentary scene or, in the case of this MA, a still life set up. This scenario does not make this question invalid but rather make it more difficult to answer. An answer which will require more time to obtain.
