Module 4 – Week 2 – Remixing

Do you consider any of your work to be original?

In some ways yes. My petrol station series felt very original at the time but has influenced other work since. For a piece of work to be entirely original then it must be entirely exclusive to that theme or subject matter.

Would you agree that you are remixing images and ideas that you have previously encountered, but can’t remember?

It’s a fair statement that our experiences effect our work even if that is subconsciously. The bringing together of different photographic techniques with different themes can make work which feels original but involves a certain level of ‘remixing’.

Do you think remixing is merely a means to complete a project, or is a form of remixing operating at a deeper level of your practice?

Remixing is a path to completing a project but isn’t entirely sufficient. Remixing could be operating at a deeper level, as discussed in a previous answer, subconsciously.
