Coming into the first webinar of Module 4 I felt nervous. Last module I had technical issues attending webinars and was marked down for lack of attendance. My grades from Mod 3 were not the best and I needed a pick me up.
I showed some examples of work I’ve been doing this week and last week and it was largely well received. This webinar brought me to question the definition of a studio or what we have in front of the camera.
Laura urges me to try and build more in terms of the environment of the image. Using lighting and shadow to build atmosphere while also considering the full depth of the image from foreground to background.
The use of skulls and ‘dead things’ was well received and talk of my step sons snake intrigued all. It was suggested and I like the idea of trying to use the snake down the line as part of my ‘still life’ scenes. How could I integrate this? Maybe some sketching needed here.
Laura made suggestions of three artists to follow up and on and my first thoughts are that I find them inspiring and will investigate this further. I am generally reluctant to constantly follow and work in the shadow of other practitioners and want to and need to break out and form my own practice more here.
