By dragging a curves adjustment to its extreme on the shadows and then dodging out a lot of the background and image has been slightly retrievable. There is a lack of detail on the thistle heads and this is key to emulating the works of Karl Blossfeldt and some of Irving Penns work.

The first of these two images involved some experimentation with front tilt to give an artificially shallower depth of field. These have generally been successful but I would like to repeat these experiments digitally to obtain more detail as well as darkroom printing to try and draw more from these negatives.
