In this shoot I continued the vein of symbolism in the arrangement I photographed. This was through using bread and wine in one composition and bread and fish in the other composition. The religious undertones of the arrangement are well known and evident. To begin with in the shoot I attempted to use more of a textured ‘beige’ background as found in the paintings of Caravaggio and Claesz. This was through using the curtains in our living room but I’m not entirely happy with the outcome. I will try and find a more suitable backdrop to use.

Moving on from this initial composition I changed to black and grey backdrops with hard lighting. The creation of the negative space isolates the subject and replicates the darkness of Kalf and Fantin-Latour. A range of selected images are shown in a separate post.

These contact sheets feature a lot of images experimenting with light, composition and arrangement. The images boxed in green are those selected for refinement and presentation.
