Below shows a selection of images from Shoot 1 from this Module 2. The images are of a variety of locations in the towns surrounding Fawley Oil Refinery. The contact sheets for which are visible here.
My goal for the images was to channel some of the inspirations so far from the likes of Fergus Heron and Simon Roberts to depict the stacks and chimneys of the refinery in the background of the images. For some of these shots I took to standing on the roof of my car to gain some elevation. In some of his work of industrial landscapes, Ed Burtynsky uses drones to gain elevation. Something which may be out of reach for me at this point in time.
The autumnal state of the surrounding vegetation means that many of these views may be obscured come warmer seasons. There may be much to be gained from revisiting for rephotographing either way.
Some interest was gained from local residents enquiring what I was doing and why. Upon explanation there was a range of interest with all residents in agreement that Fawley stands as a blot on the landscape which they wish was not there.
